Within Dubai Design District, Gemy Maalouf’s first flagship translates the intimacy of the historic boudoir into a contemporary retail interior. Once private rooms shaped by dressing, ornament, and ritual, these feminine spaces inform a sequence of softly carved salons contained within a compact commercial footprint.

From reception to eveningwear, fitting rooms, and a secluded bridal suite, the boutique unfolds through a succession of curved thresholds and enclosed rooms. Mirrors extend sightlines beyond their physical limits, amplifying depth and reflection throughout the interior. Against travertine floors and limewashed walls, glossy blush resin introduces a vivid counterpoint, while brushed nickel lends a cooler precision. The resulting palette is tactile yet restrained, forming a quiet setting for the color, texture, and volume of Gemy Maalouf’s gowns.

Planning and interior architecture were developed alongside 3D visualization, material and lighting studies, custom furniture, and bespoke retail fixtures. Rather than reading as independent elements, displays and furnishings are integrated into the architecture. Arched portals establish the spatial rhythm. Concealed coves wash the curved surfaces in diffuse light, while custom garment rails follow the geometry of the rooms.

Despite its modest footprint, the plan accommodates the full workings of the flagship. Private fitting rooms, alterations, storage, office space, and back-of-house functions are embedded within the sequence of public salons. Practical requirements recede from view, preserving the intimacy and continuity of the customer experience.

Throughout, soft geometries are set against moments of material contrast and reflection. Heritage is present without reproduction. Femininity is expressed through proportion, movement, and form rather than ornament alone. The result is an interior conceived as both setting and frame, giving architectural presence to the ritual of dressing while allowing the garments themselves to remain central.

Under the intensity of the Arizona sun, the landscape surrounding this Scottsdale residence shifts between extremes. Pale stone and dry terrain absorb the midday glare, while distant ridges, saguaro, and evening skies bring depth and softness to the desert. That tension between light and shadow became the organizing principle for a full-service renovation of the home’s main floor.

The existing plan was reconsidered around the rituals of cooking, gathering, and entertaining. Walls were removed, circulation was clarified, and the kitchen and pantry were entirely reconfigured. Custom millwork extends into the morning nook and dining room, giving storage and display a more architectural presence within the social spaces of the home.

At the center of the renovation, the kitchen is structured through a simple L-shaped composition. A pale volume clad in Taj Mahal Quartzite meets a darker plane of full-height custom cabinetry, establishing a contrast that recalls the desert itself. The range, previously confined to a narrow recess, now occupies a long wall parallel to the living space. Cooking becomes part of the room rather than an activity removed from it. Two sinks positioned along the home’s central axis further support a shared approach to preparation and gathering.

Material weight continues into the adjoining living room. Here, the fireplace was rebuilt as a custom-colored concrete volume, scaled to meet the height of the room and the stronger architectural language of the kitchen. What had been an undersized focal point now grounds the space. In the morning nook and dining area, bespoke cabinetry carries the material palette outward, integrating storage without interrupting the openness of the plan.

Throughout the residence, texture mediates the force of the surrounding light. Grain, stone, concrete, and shadow give definition to surfaces that once receded against expanses of white stucco. Light elements are countered by dark ones; smooth planes meet tactile materials. The resulting interior draws its character from the same contrasts that define the Sonoran Desert, creating a home that feels grounded within its landscape while remaining open to the rhythms of everyday life.

Reserved for the arena’s most premium ticket holders, the Players’ Club reinterprets the intimacy and ceremony of the 1940s supper club within a contemporary hospitality setting. Historically defined by exclusivity, entertainment, and ritual, the social clubs of the era inform an experience centered on dining, gathering, and unusually close proximity to the players themselves.

Within a compact footprint, the restaurant is organized around a strong central axis. At its center, a saturated red wine cellar houses the private collections of ticketed members and establishes the visual anchor of the room. Grasscloth walls, reflective surfaces, and deeply upholstered mohair banquettes temper its intensity. The palette remains dark and atmospheric, allowing moments of color, texture, and reflection to carry greater weight.

Sightlines structure the experience. Views toward both the home and away players’ tunnels are carefully framed, while symmetry brings order to the plan. The bar recedes into one corner so that the wine cellar and player arrival remain dominant. Residential details soften its presence through artwork, low lighting, and subtle references to the Flames.

Large banquettes occupy the center of the room, drawing from the enveloping seating arrangements of historic supper clubs. Their scale creates a sense of privacy within the larger social setting. Two and four-seat tables line the perimeter, allowing the dining room to shift between more intimate gatherings and larger groups. At key moments, operable screens retract and the players’ tunnel becomes part of the room.

The sequence begins before guests are seated. Two distinct reception points establish a sense of arrival, followed by access to the full bar, private wine cellar, and views into the movement of the arena beyond. When players pass through the adjacent tunnel, the boundary between spectator and team briefly disappears.

A final ritual recalls the supper club tradition. Guests are welcomed with an Old Fashioned and crudités before moving into a rotating menu shaped through direct interaction with the chef. Hospitality, spectacle, and sport converge in a setting conceived specifically for the Flames, transforming a premium arena offering into a more intimate club experience.

Selected as the winning design in Turkish furniture brand B&T’s open call, this sculptural screen was developed for inclusion in the company’s permanent collection and on show during Salone del Mobile 2024 in Milan. Conceived at the intersection of furniture and interior design, the piece responds to a familiar requirement within commercial spaces: creating separation without introducing a conventional architectural partition.

Asymmetry gives the screen its identity. A series of offset fins creates a form that shifts according to viewpoint, reading as a singular object from one angle and a layered composition from another. Used independently, it carries the presence of a sculptural element. Repeated across a larger space, the profile establishes a continuous rhythm while allowing light, movement, and partial views to pass between zones.

Its construction follows the same economy. Non-permanent joints allow individual components to be removed and replaced rather than requiring the unit to be discarded as a whole. This approach extends the useful life of the piece and supports B&T’s broader commitment to more considered production methods.

Neither entirely furniture nor architecture, the screen occupies a space between the two. Its scale defines space; its material and form give it the autonomy of an object. The result reflects a shared interest in furniture that can shape commercial interiors through character, repetition, and adaptability.

At 550 square feet, The Mint reconsiders the familiar language of the neighborhood barbershop. Rather than drawing from the mustached logos, barber poles, and turn-of-the-century references that have come to define the typology, the interior looks to a quieter form of nostalgia. Records play against a backdrop of warm wood, matte tile, and terrazzo, giving the compact space the ease of something established without reproducing a particular era.

Three cutting stations occupy the main salon alongside a waiting area and hair-wash station. Beyond them, the plan transitions into a more private zone containing the washroom and a flexible staff space. The latter was given particular importance. In a profession where breaks are often taken within view of clients, the room offers the barbers a place to step away from the activity of the shop without requiring additional square footage for a dedicated lounge.

A system of custom sliding panels negotiates the threshold between these public and private areas. When closed, the panels conceal the back-of-house functions and create a clear visual boundary within the narrow plan. Their perforated circular openings serve a second, less visible purpose. A concealed split cooling system sits behind the millwork, requiring continuous airflow even when the partition is fully drawn. The pattern was therefore developed as both graphic element and mechanical solution, allowing air to move through the enclosure without exposing the equipment behind it.

Artificial light is treated with similar integration. A large illuminated ceiling plane reproduces the clarity of natural daylight above the cutting stations, providing consistent working light throughout the day and into the evening. Its brightness cuts deliberately against the warmer, lower-lit character of the surrounding interior.

Custom millwork ties these elements together. Storage, work surfaces, partitions, and mechanical concealment were designed as part of a single architectural language rather than introduced as independent fixtures. Within a modest footprint, each component performs more than one role. The resulting interior balances atmosphere with utility, using material warmth, precise detailing, and carefully controlled light to establish a barbershop identity removed from convention.

Within the harder architecture of Scotia Place, this cocktail lounge introduces an intentionally softer register. Terracotta, blush, and sage replace the darker conventions of arena hospitality, while curved forms and diffuse light temper the surrounding concrete. Conceived for game days but open throughout the year, the lounge operates as both retreat and destination, offering a more intimate counterpoint to the energy beyond its doors.

The transition begins at the threshold. A continuous curved surface rises from wall to ceiling, dissolving the distinction between the two and shaping arrival as an architectural gesture. Rather than revealing the room at once, the entry establishes its character through enclosure, softness, and a gradual shift in atmosphere.

A compact plan is organized around symmetry. At its center, an arched bar clad in reeded glass becomes the principal focal point, its translucent surface catching and diffusing light across the room. From here, a sequence of repeated arches moves along the perimeter. Their rhythm gives structure to the lounge while drawing the eye toward a more secluded banquette room beyond.

The arches function as more than ornament. Openings frame views between spaces, establish a measured progression through the interior, and allow the private room to remain connected without surrendering its sense of enclosure. Deeper tones and lower light distinguish this secondary space, creating a quieter atmosphere within the larger lounge.

Seating shifts between low lounge arrangements and tea-height tables, supporting cocktails, wine, small plates, and longer stays with equal ease. Curved upholstery and layered textures reinforce the room’s softer geometry. Every architectural element is custom, from the bar and repeated portals to the integrated millwork and transitions between surfaces.

Against the scale and intensity of the arena, the lounge finds its identity through contrast. Softness is treated as an architectural device rather than decoration; repetition provides order without rigidity. The result reframes the conventions of arena hospitality through a lighter, more expressive interior, creating a year-round setting with an identity distinct from the event spaces surrounding it.

Developed in collaboration with New York-based textile and furniture company Jamie Stern, this rug collection explores the floor as a plane. Conventional rectangular formats give way to sculpted silhouettes whose edges resist classification. Neither entirely geometric nor organic, each form occupies a space between the two.

The collection draws its color from gradual shifts found in the natural landscape. Sand dissolves into water; the surface of a leaf moves through variations of green. Enlarged to an architectural scale, these transitions become fields of color that move across the floor, introducing depth without relying on pattern in the traditional sense.

Each design can be adapted to the palette of an individual project. Shown in hand-tufted construction, the rugs are made from a blend of natural wool and bamboo silk, creating subtle shifts in texture and reflectivity across the surface. Hand-knotted construction is also available for applications requiring a finer level of craftsmanship and finish.

The collaboration brings together Jamie Stern’s material expertise with an interior-driven approach to product design. Conceived at the scale of a room rather than as an isolated object, the collection uses color, contour, and texture to shape the space around it.

Conceived as a family of three guest suites, the project establishes a shared architectural language while allowing each room to develop its own character through furniture, color, and material. Light and shadow organize the experience. Darker, wood-lined entries create a sense of enclosure on arrival before giving way to brighter sleeping areas oriented toward expansive views of the surrounding landscape.

The commission encompassed full-service interior design, from concept development and spatial planning through material selection, furniture curation, and documentation drawings. Functional elements are absorbed into the architecture wherever possible. Natural materials provide continuity from room to room; individual furniture palettes introduce distinction.

The sleeping areas shift toward a lighter register. Walnut forms the backdrop to the king bed, framed by vertical louvers that bring depth and rhythm to the wall. Across the glazing, sheer drapery filters daylight rather than obscuring it, maintaining the connection to the landscape beyond. Deep teal appears selectively within the furnishings, drawing from the color of the nearby water and adding saturation to an otherwise restrained palette.

In the ensuites, the relationship to the landscape becomes more layered. Repeated wood louvers partially screen the glazing, offering glimpses outward from the vanity while negotiating the opposing requirements of privacy and openness. Operable sections allow that relationship to change throughout the day. Light, views, and enclosure can be adjusted rather than fixed.

Stone brings greater weight to these spaces. Its tonal variation takes cues from the surrounding mountains, grounding the bathrooms against the warmth of the wood and reinforcing the connection between interior architecture and site.

Across all three suites, contrast is used to shape experience rather than simply define a palette. Dark passages open into daylight; dense materials give way to expansive views; individual furnishings sit within a consistent architectural framework. Together, the rooms balance the intimacy of a private retreat with the considered detailing and spatial clarity of a boutique hospitality interior.

The main floor of this mountain residence is shaped by the tension between its original log architecture and a more contemporary material language. Existing timber remains central to the interior, while stone, brushed metal, limewash, and deeper tones introduce contrast and definition.

At the center of the plan, the kitchen was completely reconfigured and expanded to support cooking, casual dining, and gathering. Nearly black cabinetry gives the room weight, set against a raw stone island that draws from the surrounding mountain landscape. Pocket doors allow the kitchen to shift between open and enclosed, while concealed functions preserve the clarity of the space.

The former entry lounge was reimagined as a formal dining room, retaining its articulated log ceiling and walls. Limewash adds softness and depth; brushed-metal portals introduce a sharper architectural edge. These same details continue into the living room, where enlarged glazing opens the interior toward uninterrupted views of the landscape.

Within the living room, sculptural seating and a layered lighting strategy reinforce the scale of the timber-clad ceiling. A television disappears behind sliding artwork panels, allowing the room to remain centered on gathering, conversation, and the landscape beyond.

Conceived as a complete reworking of the residence’s lower level, the interior is organized as four distinct zones, each calibrated to a different kind of activity. Billiards occupies the entry and establishes a more animated arrival. Beyond it, a lounge and full bar form the social center of the plan, designed around conversation, gathering, and watching hockey. A saturated poker room offers greater enclosure, while a dedicated puck-practice area sits apart from the primary entertaining spaces.

The renovation draws from the architectural language established elsewhere in the home, translating it into a more elevated and expressive setting below grade. Weight and softness are held in tension throughout. Warm oak wraps the walls in custom millwork, while walnut deepens the back bar and gives the darker zone a more intimate character.

Rather than treating the basement as a collection of recreational rooms, the plan gives each function its own atmosphere while maintaining a continuous architectural language across the floor.
